  • Preparing for Your Tour
  • Before you set off, we’ll provide you with a detailed route by simly scanning the QR code which will take you to Google Maps on your phone for the specific chosen tour. Here are some essentials to consider.
  • Documents
    • Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your arrival. Check visa requirements based on your country of origin.
    • Driver’s Licence: Bring an English driver’s licence with a photo, or an international driver’s licence if needed. (Minimum age 21 however we will consider younger riders although a premium excess will be charged)
    • Insurance: Travel and medical insurance are essential. Have your policy details and contact numbers ready.
    • Credit Card & Cash: Cards are accepted almost everywhere, and ATMs are widely available. You can also withdraw cash at the airport on arrival.
  • Gear and Clothing
    • Motorcycle Gear: Pack your protective gear (helmet, gloves, suit, and boots) for safety and comfort.
    • Weather Protection: Bring light rain gear; South Africa’s climate varies, with drier weather in the Western Cape and occasional summer rain in the east.
    • Casual & Functional Wear: Climate control underwear and a warm layer for cooler evenings are recommended.
    • Hydration & Electronics: A hydration pack helps prevent dehydration, and don’t forget chargers and power banks for your electronics.
    • Swimwear: Many stops have pools or natural water sources, so bring swimwear for a refreshing break.
  • Road Travel & Driving in South Africa
  • South Africa has an extensive road network, generally in good condition. Here’s what you need to know for a safe and enjoyable ride:
    • Road Types & Speed Limits: You’ll find a mix of well-maintained highways and scenic gravel roads. Speed limits are in kilometres per hour: 60 km/h in towns, 100 km/h on secondary roads, and 120 km/h on highways. Always drive on the left side of the road.
    • Fuel Stops: Fuel stations are widely available. South Africa’s unique touch? Fuel is pumped for you by an attendant. A small tip (around R5 to R 10) is customary.

  • South Africa offers a diverse climate, ideal for riders visiting from colder northern climates during winter. Summers (December to March) bring warm weather (around 25°C on average), while winters (June to August) can be cooler, particularly in the evenings.
  • Currency & Payments
  • The South African currency is the rand (R). ATM machines are widely available, and credit cards are accepted almost everywhere.
  • Health & Safety
  • South Africa’s urban tap water is generally safe to drink, but it’s wise to carry bottled water when venturing into remote areas. Malaria precautions are only necessary if you plan to visit specific northern regions like the Kruger National Park.
